Wake up America!

I haven been watching what has been taking place down south. I think its terrible. I know I am taking some cloths that I don't wear to the Salvation Army. I will find a booth to donate as well. I can only think of how we look to the rest of the world. It is frustrating to me that the party of our President and Congress are so arrogant about themselves that things like this go by the way side. There is so much poverty in New Orleans that Katrina has unveiled for the entire country to see. We are the most powerful nation in the world and we have a problem with a quick response within our own borders. I don't understand.

We spend Billions and Trillions of dollars on a conflict over seas and yet congress has failed to act to past calls to bring the levee system in New Orleans up to par.

I don't know what the response would be - no matter what party is in power - but it just seems to me that the Republicans are short sighted. They keep winning elections because they give uneducated people what they want now - instead of attempting to make their lives better for the future. The President can talk about his tax cuts all he wants but where has his "cut" gone??? It has been spent on the extra costs I am dishing out on gas....higher taxes from the states because the Federal government has cut state spending. Our Social Security system is in peril...and in 1998 President Clinton pleaded with the Congress to divert surpluses into the SS Budget until it was solvent for another 100 years. That makes sense to me.....yes....taxes are a bitch...but I can afford them now.....and I know they can be cut sooner or later.....but if the money I am putting away for SS is for nothing....where is my 'security' down the line? Again - they have it right to suit their drunkness of power....Republicans give us the money now...without reminding us about possible fall out later.

I think there are good people on both sides. However, I just cannot agree with a shortsighted state of mind in our Federal Government. I dislike how they get poor people or elderly people excited about the high cost of gas or moral breakdown and they point at two men kissing and claiming they are the reason for the peril. Its damn wrong and I wish our nation would wake up.

I am tired of people blinding themselves with their faith and scowling at people who question our leaders. Our Nation was founded on the very principle that we always question the choices our leaders make...it is the heart of democracy....why would we shun people who have the courage to do so?

America needs to wake up, people need to voice themselves, we need people in Washington who will prepare our nation for what is to come - not give us treats when we want them. We have roads falling apart in this country but we are building them in Iraq. It seems interesting....if the War was not taking place....where would have all that money been spent? Education? Nope Roads? Nope Health? Nope...none of these. It would have been diverted to a tax cut to the wealthiest among us and the poor's break would have already been gobbled up by the rise in energy expenses. This is not the American way.

I still have hope. I loved walking around that Capitol building when I interned. It's just unfitting too often how we build such a wonderful National City - - adorn it with monuments that hold principles and dreams that we always seem to fall short to accomplish.

America can do better; its interesting now that Bush is saying "Help is on the Way"

Disappointed doesn't even scratch the surface...try infuriated. I have to stop watching the news now cuz I know that I'll start yelling at the tv over the stupidity...good lord. Don't tell me that them bitches couldn't have been dropping water and food and supplies and evacuating people on Tuesday, because I know damn well that they could have. They made a concious choice not to do it.

I just hope that when it is time for elections again that America will vote with a little more common sense, and far less religious fervor. Fags marrying and destroying modern society is the least of this country's worries... Grrrrr
